Hadn't set up for a little while, so I took a few things to a local elementary school raising money with a Bingo game!  Had a fun evening, some lookers and a little crowd of 200+ people.  Go Smithville!

Mixed Clay Beads

I've done mixed clay before but it's been a while.  Here is what I'm working on today.  I've made some odd larger pieces and lots of beads.  What do you think?

Here's a few more...

I burnished a couple of these.  Some I will glaze...

Clay Day!

So far today, and it's 6:35 p.m. right now, between breaks, I made 13--10 bead sets.  These are small and all but three sets will have designs on them.  That does not include several sets of earring charms and a few pendants and cuffs.  Happy with that, but will have to do more to fill the kiln.
If you have any suggestions, I am open to try something new!

Here's to hoping I'm able to get back into the clay starting tomorrow!  I'm ready.  The buttons are a nice diversion, but I'm ready to get muddy again.

Lovely Day

I had a lovely day, went to town to have lunch with a good family friend, lots of stories, tears and laughs...Thank you Mary!

Picked up my new glasses and was on a cheap drunk for a bit, but I'm better now.

Shopped with Hubby...it was a really nice day.

Spring Has Sprung!

What a beautiful morning...Spring is here again, birds have been singing for days and beginning their nests, peepers have been peeping for a couple of weeks and my flowering quince bush has come to life again.

Such a blessing to have made it through another winter, tho this past winter was very mild for this area.  Not much snow and I don't think it even got down to zero once.  Fairly sure an Easter storm is around the corner, March came in like a lamb and it hardly ever fails to go out like a lion!

I'm doing my button display in a couple of days at our public library, so I need to get busy and get some trays of buttons ready to be seen.  Hopefully, I can round some up that haven't been seen before.

Hope you all have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Stringing Buttons for National Button Week!

Yesterday I strung 18 feet, 8 inches worth of plastic buttons to decorate my table for National Button Week.  I set up with a button buddy to celebrate and talk about (to anyone who stops by) buttons one day a year through the third week of March.  I'm not sure button buddy is going to be able to make it this year as she just got released from the hospital, but I can carry on...Buttons!  It's all for the buttons.

I'm trying to think of a way to have people guess how many buttons are on this string and the one closest to the number of them gets the string.  I would like to make it a challenge of some kind so I could make a donation to my Humane Society...we'll see how that goes!

Anyway, here are the buttons...the counting soon begins!

A Whistle Giveaway!

Check out these adorable whistles!  http://nkpwhistles.etsy.com

I was fortunate enough to receive one similar a couple of years ago in a bead swap and I am so tickled with it!  But I really like this one too and of course, I hope I win it!  LOL

Natalie does a great job, this process is more complicated than I want to get, but I MIGHT try my hand at it someday...(shaking head NO).

Anyway, enjoy the whistle blog and good luck, if I don't win it, I hope you do!

Making Some Earrings

There is a Bingo game going on the end of the month at a local elementary school and I'm making earrings today to take.  Also stringing a blue seahorse for the giveaway necklace.  I love this piece.  The glaze was swiped away a little bit and I love the way it looks.

The earrings are different colored roses on white or speckled stoneware...

I'm not a jewelry maker, but I can make simple earrings.  I like these roses, what do you think?

Fiber Arts today...

I have been working on making some knitted socks for fiber arts and have just about worn out one little yank of yarn because of so many mistakes...purling when I should knit, slipped stitches I couldn't figure out how to put back on correctly, etc.

So I have about an 1 1/2 inches knitted correctly this time to take for show and tell...ridiculous when there are others that will have a pair of socks done by now!  I do too many other things is what I keep telling myself, I just cannot settle on one or two crafts to do, but I must to get anything completed.  I consider myself a good starter, but I'm a bad finisher and that's not good.

And I don't know when I get to work in more clay at this point.  I was considering buying a new kiln a little while back, now I'm not sure I need to do that.  And of course all the housework that gets in the way!  Oh, for the good fortune of someone taking over that task...LOL!

Lost a good Scrabble/knitting/collecting buddy the other day.  I am going to her viewing this afternoon after club.  I will miss her, she was quite the genteel lady, a good impression on me, giving and loving beyond words.  I will miss you Lenore...RIP my friend 'til we meet again...

Kiln is ON!

...and the firing process has begun.  Always makes me anxious and excited.  I think I've explained it before but to open the kiln is like Christmas morning...some gifts you like better than others.  But it's always a surprise and I anxiously await every time even still.

I am still new to the whole process, so I guess that's why I feel the way I do.  Never know just exactly what to expect altho I'm always hopeful things turn out well.

The weather today is mild and its raining lightly.  The lilac bushes are just about to bud and this rain will really push things along.  I heard peepers last night when I let the dog out.  I love to hear them, you know Spring is really just around the corner, even tho, sometimes they peep thru ice.

Guess What?

This is the third day of glazing and I'm finally seeing the end of the road for this batch.  Maybe by tomorrow afternoon I can fire.  I sure hope so, I'm getting tired of this!  LOL

The weather was so mild today, so springlike and my flowering quince bush is all but blossoming.  I could cut some branches and bring them in to force them to flower, but it won't take long anyway.  They are so beautiful.

Well, back at it for a bit...catch you all later, take care!

Wet Sanding

Doing some wet sanding today.  Lots of littles to do, so it's going to take a while, but that's okay!

Looks like we're under another bad storm watch this afternoon.  I don't like that one little bit.  Stay safe out there!

Back to the beads, hope you have a great and safe weekend!
