Clays and Glaze

The wonders of clays and glaze!  I am still so curious about what will come out of the kiln and although my experiments are not legendary, they are still interesting to me.  Those of you educated about such things probably won't even find this curious, but I do!

Here is one experiment that I started this week.  There are four different clays and the same glaze on these pieces.  The first is a white clay, off white, buff and dark red.  They were all layered as carefully as possible with the same amount of glaze on each piece.  The backs of the finished ones look very similar to the picture of the unglazed ones.

Here are the results!  I love the look of each, what do you think?

  1. This was an interesting experiment. It is amazing how the base clay can change the way the glaze looks. I just love that dark red clay. I would like to see more of this type of thing with other colors of glaze.
